January in the Gallery
“The Power of
One” is the titled and creative impetus facing ChathamArts
Gallery for the month of January. In honor of this month’s debut
as the first month of the 2009, some artists have taken on the challenge to create
a piece of art that is made from one piece while various artists have chosen
to exhibit one of their best pieces.
The show runs from January 1st- 31st and at the first Sunday opening
reception on January 4th from noon to 5pm with ample opportunity
to meet with all the artists present. Eddie
White and Forrest Greenslade will go into detail about their artistic endeavors discussing what
has influenced and informed their creations.
Eddie White
Made
from metal, Eddie White's sculpture is unique in that the pieces
are generally curvilinear and possess a light, airy quality. Both
large and small scale mobiles require only the slightest
air movement to turn or oscillate, showing off their most endearing
trait, the interplay of line and light. Quite often mobiles
and stationary pieces alike will create ever-changing moiré patterns.
Pieces are cut from a variety of materials including galvanized
sheet metal, copper, cold-rolled black steel, and stainless steel. Painted
pieces are sandblasted, primed and sprayed with multiple coats
of industrial grade, exterior paint or for maximum protection,
coated with a factory applied baked -on polyester powder finish.
